Global Youth Service Day celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. GYSD is the largest service event in the world and the only one dedicated to the contributions that the youth make 365 days of the year. WMAC's project for 2016 was called #GlamUpGarfieldPark.
This project began as a beautification project for one building in the Garfield Park Neighborhood of Grand Rapids. Through community support and partnerships, this project evolved to be a neighborhood wide large scale city event promoting clean neighborhoods and community partnerships. With different projects throughout the neighborhood, this event is inclusive and open to the public. Almost 100 volunteers participated including several AmeriCorps teams and Central Michigan University students.
